Rima Das, a two-time National Film Award-winning filmmaker, is known for making indigenous and realistic stories that explore complicated relationships, finding purpose, coming of age and life amidst nature. She was conferred Academy Awards (Oscars) membership in 2024.

She is also one of the Brand Ambassadors of the Toronto International Film Festival’s “Share Her Journey” campaign that champions the cause of gender equality in cinema. GQ India named Das as one of the Most Influential Young Indians of 2018.

Her films Village Rockstars (2018) and Bulbul Can Sing (2019) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and screened at over 120 prestigious international film festivals, winning over 70 awards including National Film Awards in India. Village Rockstars was also India’s official entry to the Academy Awards 2019. In 2022, Tora’s Husband had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and its Asian Premiere at the Busan International Film Festival.

She also directed the Emma part of the My Melbourne anthology, supported by VicScreen and Screen Australia, shot in Melbourne with an Australian cast and crew. The film had its world premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2024 and its international premiere at the Mumbai Film Festival 2024. She also directed a Hindi-language film co-produced by a Mumbai-based production house to be streamed on a digital platform.
