Hisako Kurosawa was born and raised in Fukushima, Japan, and completed a bachelor’s degree in Japanese literature. She began her career as a broadcast journalist, but was drawn to screenwriting, where she found early success with Tokyo Noir (2004), Finger (2006) and Show Me A Beautiful Night (2007). More recently, she has enjoyed critical acclaim for scripts such as I Am A Cat Stalker (2009), Accidental Kidnapper (2010) and Caterpillar (2010). Hisako lives in Tokyo and writes with the ever-present inspiration of her cat, Blue. Deru Deguchi was born in rural Miyagi in 1936 and moved to Tokyo at age seventeen where he was drawn into the world of the Yakuza. Early experiences in prison politicised his outlook and on his release he became involved in television and film. Caterpillar was nominated for the Golden Bear at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival.
The Asia Pacific Screen Academy expresses its respect for and acknowledgement of the South East Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. We pay our respects to the Traditional Owners of country, including the custodial communities on whose land works are created and celebrated by the Asia Pacific Screen Awards. We acknowledge the continuing connection to land, waters and communities. We also pay our respects to Elders, past and emerging. We recognise the integral role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and First Nations peoples continue to play in storytelling and celebration spaces.
