Born in Banyoles, Spain (1974), Montse Triola is a creative and executive producer known for her work in contemporary auteur cinema. She earned a BA in Performing Arts from the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona, followed by an MA in Theatre Practice with a focus on 20th-century visual and performance theories at Rose Bruford College in the United Kingdom, alongside studies in English Philology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
In 2003, she co-founded Andergraun Films with director Albert Serra. Since then, she has produced the entirety of Serra’s filmography, including Honor of the Knights (2006) and Birdsong (2008), both premiered at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes; Story of My Death (Golden Leopard, Locarno 2013); The Death of Louis XIV (Official Selection, Cannes 2016); Liberté (Special Jury Prize, Un Certain Regard, Cannes 2019); Pacifiction (Official Competition, Cannes 2022); and Afternoons of Solitude (Golden Shell, San Sebastián 2024).
Beyond her long-term collaboration with Serra, Triola has produced acclaimed works by other internationally renowned filmmakers, such as Afterwater by Dane Komljen (Berlinale Forum 2022, Best Film – Revoluciones Permanentes, Seville) and Miséricorde by Alain Guiraudie (Cannes Première 2024, Golden Spike and Best Screenplay, Valladolid 2024), as well as Magellan by Lav Diaz (Cannes Première 2025).
She has also served as executive producer on major audiovisual installations and museum pieces including Personalien (Museo Reina Sofía/Eye Filmmuseum), Roi Soleil (Grand Prix, FID Marseille 2018), Singularity (Venice Biennale 2015), and The Three Little Pigs (Documenta 13, Kassel).
Montse Triola is currently working on the feature Out of This World, a new feature film by Albert Serra, in co-production with France, Portugal and Germany.
