Born in Tehran in 1979, Shayesteh Irani is an acting graduate from Tehran’s Azad University. Her first major film role was in the internationally acclaimed film Offside (2006) by Jafar Panahi. For that film she, together with the other actresses in the film, was awarded the Best Actress at Gijón International Film Festival, Spain in 2006. That same year the film won the Grand Jury Prize at the Berlin Film Festival. Facing Mirrors (2011) is her third feature film. For this role she was nominated for the Best Actress Award by Fajr Film Festival and the Iranian Cinematic Critics.
