Born in Hokkaido, Sho Miyake studied at the Film School of Tokyo and graduated from Hitotsubashi University, Faculty of Sociology. His first feature, Playback (2012), was selected for the International Competition at the Locarno Film Festival. The Cockpit (2014) and And Your Bird Can Sing (2018), the latter presented in the Forum at the 68th Berlinale, established his reputation as a distinctive voice in Japanese cinema. Small, Slow but Steady (2022) premiered in the Encounters section at the 72nd Berlinale, while All the Long Nights (2024) screened in the Forum at the 74th Berlinale and earned multiple domestic awards. He also explores video installation, including World Tour. His latest feature, Two Seasons, Two Strangers (2025), won the Golden Leopard at Locarno.
