Born in Shymkent, Yerkinbek Ptyraliyev graduated from the Film and Television school at the Kazakh National Academy of Arts T. Zhurgenov before completing his Magistracy in Cinematography at the Kazakh National Art University, where he now lectures in cinematography. Ptyraliyev was Director of Photography for Director Adilkhan Yerzhanov’s third feature film, The Owners (2014), which premiered in Special Screenings at the Cannes Film Festival this year. The Owners marks Ptyraliyev’s feature narrative cinematography debut, having previously shot numerous documentaries for GoldenMedia Studio including Mean Every MomentRoad by Walking and Astana – Heart of Birthplace. Ptyraliyev was awarded Best Cinematography at the National Youth Festival, Didar.
