Atul Kulkarni was born in Belgaum, India in 1965. While studying Arts he joined an amateur theatre group which ignited his passion for acting and he decided to make it his profession.

In 1995 Atul graduated from India’s National School of Drama, New Delhi, and his acclaimed career began with his first professional role, as Mahatma Gandhi in a play. He received an overwhelming response from critics as well as audiences, along with several awards and an offer for his first film Hey Ram. Winner of two of India’s prestigious National Awards, Atul has worked with leading personalities of the Indian film industry including Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Kamal Hassan Rakesh Mehra,and Madhur Bhandarkar.

Since 1995 he has acted in over 50 films in six languages including Natarang (2010), Padikathavan (2009), Valu (2008), Rang De Basanti (2006), Run (2002) and Chandni Bar (2001).
