High Commendation, Achievement in Directing, 2012

Cheng Er, known for his ability to keep audiences guessing, graduated from the film department of Beijing Film Academy in 1999. After graduation he made the film Criminals (1999), playing the multiple roles of screenwriter, director and editor. He wrote and directed the well-received psychodrama Unfinished Girl (2005), which was nominated for several awards, prior to filming crime drama Lethal Hostage (2011), where he again served as screenwriter, director and editor.

The Asia Pacific Screen Academy expresses its respect for and acknowledgement of the South East Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. We pay our respects to the Traditional Owners of country, including the custodial communities on whose land works are created and celebrated by the Asia Pacific Screen Awards. We acknowledge the continuing connection to land, waters and communities. We also pay our respects to Elders, past and emerging. We recognise the integral role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and First Nations peoples continue to play in storytelling and celebration spaces.
