Winner, Best Performance By An Actress, 2014
One of the best-known actresses in China, active on stage since the age of 18, Lü Zhong’s successful film career includes the 1993 films Da Sa Ba and The Blue Kite. Her many roles include APSA winners Feng Xiaogang’s Back to 1942 (2012) and Aftershock (2010), which won the APSA for Best Feature Film and was the highest-grossing Chinese film of all time at the time of release. Lü also appeared in Bodyguards and Assassins (2009), which swept the 29th Hong Kong Film Awards, Empire of Silver (2009) and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan (2011). At the distinguished age of 73, she undertook her first lead film role in Sixth Generation Chinese director Wang Xiaoshuai’s Red Amnesia, which was in official competition at the 2014 Venice Film Festival.
