Feras Fayyad

Recipient

Director Feras Fayyad (Syria) for feature documentary The Cave

Jury citation:

For its extraordinary tale of courage and humanity where 5 women doctors work in desperate and dangerous conditions in an underground hospital called ‘The Cave’. They set aside their lives to save the lives of others. The setting is Syria in the midst of war, prejudice and fear. It’s a film that exudes compassion, the best of the human spirit at a time of the worst in human behavior.

Feras Fayyad is an award-winning filmmaker who has worked as a film editor and cinematographer on several documentary and narrative films. He has participated in international film festivals and received recognition for his work with contemporary Syrian issues and political transformation in the Arab world.
