Film Synopsis

32-year-old Myagmar, who made a mistake at a young age by getting involved in a murder case, re-enters the free world after 14 years in prison and adopts stray dogs. Shunned by society because of his jail time, and having lost his mother while he was locked up, Myagmar lives without friends or family except for his 20 stray dogs. Applications for work fail as he is deemed untrustworthy, he suffers from brain injury due to a severe beating in prison, he stammers while speaking, and he has kidney failure and must undergo weekly haemodialysis. But one day he is hired as a hearse driver by a funeral organisation and his life changes.

The Asia Pacific Screen Academy expresses its respect for and acknowledgement of the South East Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. We acknowledge the continuing connection to land, waters and communities. We also pay our respects to Elders, past and present. We recognise the integral role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and First Nations peoples continue to play in storytelling and celebration spaces.
