Film Synopsis

Joy and her six-year-old daughter, Angel, live in Manila, with her husband, Dante, a small-time criminal and alcoholic. Dante routinely returns home drunk at night and beats Joy brutally. This time is different, however, and he also hurts Angel. Joy flees to the local police post to finally get him sent to jail. But Joy learns that justice is not always swift. Joy feels that she and her daughter are increasingly under threat. A tale of one woman, but inspired by many, Verdict examines the turmoil experienced by Filipino women trying to escape for a better life.
