The Asia Pacific Screen Awards and the Platino Awards Announce Awards Alliance
The Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) and the Premios Platino del Cine Iberoamericano Awards (The Platino Awards) today announced an Awards Alliance between the two prestigious organisations and their respective regions, encompassing a total of 93 countries and areas across five continents.
The Awards Alliance between APSA and The Platino Awards will see the organizations join forces, providing a stronger platform to support and promote to a global audience the outstanding cinematic works from the Asia Pacific and Ibero-America regions.
With a shared awareness of the cultural and economic importance of the screen industry, the alliance will serve to connect the regions of Asia Pacific and Ibero-America through cinema, broadening the market appeal and distribution of screen projects and thereby developing a greater understanding of the region’s myriad cultures.
The initiative, which aims is to strengthen ties and develop greater cultural understanding between Latin America and the Australia-based initiative APSA, was made possible through a grant from Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR).
One of the key elements of the agreement is to foster dialogue and development between filmmakers by providing opportunities for Asia Pacific and Ibero-American filmmakers to connect through masterclasses, panels and interactive sessions.
In November 2017, Executive Director of EGEDA and The Platino Awards, Miguel Angel Benzal, participated in the 11TH APSA ceremony that took place in Brisbane, Australia. Mr. Benzal said “One of the main objectives of the Platino Awards is to build bridges with audiovisual industries beyond the borders of Ibero-America. The agreement signed with APSA reaffirms that goal and makes it a reality with the best partner we could ask for in Asia-Pacific, which is such an important region.
The Platino Awards and the Asia Pacific Screen Awards are natural allies. Both organizations share the same objectives and spirit of promoting their film industries in areas with great potential and similar development. This agreement represents a connection and a synergy between both markets.”
This week, APSA Lead Jaclyn McLendon will attend the 5th Platino Awards and participate in the EGEDA / FIPCA Annual Forum of the Ibero-American film industry. She said “The Asia Pacific Screen Awards were created to acknowledge, support and promote the cinematic excellence and cultural diversity of the Asia Pacific region. Thanks to the support of DFAT through a COALAR grant, it is an honour to now forge this Awards Alliance with the prestigious Platino Awards, an organisation with which APSA has so much in common. We look forward to growing a reciprocal and collaborative relationship with The Platino Awards that will strengthen international ties and understanding, through cinema, of both the Asia Pacific and Ibero America and for the benefit of filmmakers and audiences.”
Both organisations are committed to showcasing the exceptional films from their regions through screenings and events across various platforms. Working with the embassies and key partners across their respective regions, these events will ensure the films reach a wider global audience.
The first actions that launched as a result of the agreement are:
• In a reciprocal collaboration, The Platino Awards will appoint a Jury member from the Asia Pacific for the sixth edition of The Platino Awards in 2019, and a filmmaker from the Ibero-America region will be appointed to the 12th APSA International Jury in November 2018.
• APSA Awards and The Platino Awards will actively participate in the dissemination and promotion of both awards through their respective networks to ensure greater visibility and knowledge of the awards, and the films and filmmakers they celebrate.
PREMIOS PLATINO DE CINE IBEROAMERICANO (THE PLATINO AWARDS)
The Platino Awards were created in 2014 at the initiative of EGEDA (Entity of Management of Rights of Audiovisual Producers) with FIPCA (Ibero-American Federation of Cinematographic and Audiovisual Producers) and with the support of the Ibero-American Film Academies, Latin Artist and Aisge Foundation.
They gather annually the best of cinematography and the audiovisual sector of Ibero-America. This year the fifth edition will be held in the Riviera Maya in Quintana Roo, Mexico on 29 April, 2018.
Previous editions have been held in Panama (2014) Marbella (2015) Punta del Este (2016) and Madrid (2017).
ASIA PACIFIC SCREEN AWARDS
The Asia Pacific Screen Awards, now in their 12th year, are the region’s highest accolade in film. APSA recognises and promotes cinematic excellence and cultural diversity of the world’s fastest-growing film region: comprising 70 countries and areas, 4.5 billion people, and responsible for half of the world’s film output.
Based in Brisbane, Australia, the awards are supported by Brisbane City Council and managed by its economic development board, Brisbane Marketing. APSA has the privilege of a unique collaboration with Paris-based UNESCO and FIAPF-International Federation of Film Producers Associations.
APSA and its Academy are also committed to ongoing existing collaborations with the European Film Academy (EFA), the Motion Picture Association (MPA), NETPAC (the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema), the Asia Pacific Screen Lab (APSL) and Griffith Film School and now the Premios Platino del Cine Iberoamericano (The Platino Awards).
The 2018 awards ceremony will be held in Brisbane on 29 November, 2018.

LOS ASIA PACIFIC SCREEN AWARDS Y LOS PREMIOS PLATINO ACERCAN EL SECTOR AUDIOVISUAL DE ASIA-PACIFICO E IBEROAMÉRICA
Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) y los Premios Platino del Cine Iberoamericano han firmado un acuerdo de colaboración exclusivo para promover la industria audiovisual de Asia-Pacífico e Iberoamérica, que abarca un total de 93 países y regiones en los cinco continentes.
Los Premios Platino del Cine Iberoamericano han firmado un acuerdo con APSA, organización que promueve los Asia Pacific Screen Awards, con el objetivo de promover, desarrollar y difundir las cinematografías de Asia-Pacífico e iberoamericana en el mundo.
Conscientes de la importancia cultural y económica de la industria audiovisual, este acuerdo servirá para unir las regiones de Asia Pacífico e Iberoamérica a través del cine, fomentando encuentros de profesionales del medio, ampliando la distribución de obras cinematográficas y desarrollando una mejor difusión de las diversas culturas de cada región.
La iniciativa, que busca fortalecer las relaciones y desarrollar una mayor comprensión cultural entre América Latina y Asia Pacífico, ha sido posible gracias al apoyo del gobierno australiano, el Departamento de Asuntos Exteriores y el consejo para las relaciones entre Australia y América Latina (COALAR, por sus siglas en inglés).
Uno de los principales objetivos del acuerdo será fomentar el dialogo y desarrollar nuevas oportunidades para que profesionales de la industria del cine de Asia Pacifico e Iberoamérica, se conecten a través de seminarios, cursos, paneles y sesiones interactivas.
El pasado mes de noviembre, el Director Ejecutivo de EGEDA y de los Premios Platino, Miguel Angel Benzal, asistió a la XI ceremonia de APSA en Brisbane. Benzal dijo:
“Los Premios PLATINO nacieron para tender puentes y apoyar la industria cinematográfica iberoamericana más allá de sus fronteras. El acuerdo firmado con APSA, no solo refrenda este espíritu, sino que lo hace con el mejor aliado posible, en una región con un potencial inmenso como Asia-Pacífico”
“Los Premios PLATINO y los Asia Pacific Screen Awards son dos aliados naturales. Ambos nacieron con un mismo espíritu y trabajan por un mismo objetivo: la promoción de sus industrias cinematográficas, en dos áreas con un gran potencial y muchas similitudes: Iberoamérica y Asia-Pacífico; este acuerdo representa un puente y un generador de sinergias entre ambos mercados”
Este mes, Jaclyn McLendon Directora Ejecutiva de APSA asistirá a la quinta edición de los Premios Platino y participará posteriormente en el Foro Anual EGEDA/FIPCA de la industria cinematográfica iberoamericana.
De acuerdo con McLendon “los Asia Pacific Awards fueron creados para reconocer, apoyar y promover la excelencia cinematográfica y la diversidad cultural de la región Asia Pacífico. Gracias al apoyo de DFAT y a la ayuda de COALAR, es un honor para nosotros ser parte de esta alianza con los prestigiosos Premios Platino. Es una organización con la que APSA tiene mucho en común. Esperamos desarrollar una relación de colaboración y reciprocidad con Los Premios Platino y así mismo fortalecer lazos a nivel internacional a través del cine, tanto en Asia Pacífico como en Iberoamérica”.
Ambas organizaciones se han comprometido a exhibir películas de sus regiones a través de salas de cine y eventos en diversas plataformas. Trabajando con las principales embajadas y otros socios estratégicos en cada región, se garantizará que las películas lleguen a más audiencias a nivel mundial
Las primeras acciones que se ponen en marcha como consecuencia del acuerdo son:
– Los Premios Platino contarán con un miembro del Jurado designado por APSA desde la VI Edición en 2019, edición en la que se trabajará tras la celebración de la próxima ceremonia el día 29 de abril en Riviera Maya, México.
– Una persona designada por los Premios Platino formará parte del Jurado de la edición de los Premios APSA en la edición 2018. Los Premios APSA y los Premios Platino participarán activamente en la difusión y promoción de ambos premios a través de sus web, redes sociales, medios de comunicación y en aquellos otros soportes y materiales que ayuden a obtener mayor visibilidad y conocimiento de los premios.
Premios Platino del cine iberoamericano
Los Premios Platino de Cine Iberoamericano se crearon en 2014 a iniciativa de EGEDA (Entidad de Gestión de Derechos de los Productores Audiovisuales) con FIPCA (Federación Iberoamericana de Productores Cinematográficos y Audiovisuales) y con el apoyo de las Academias de Cine Iberoamericano, Latin Artist y Fundación Aisge.
Reúnen anualmente lo mejor de la cinematografía y el sector audiovisual iberoamericano. Este año se celebrará la V Edición en la Riviera Maya. En años anteriores se han celebrado en Panamá (2014), Marbella (2015), Punta del Este (2016) y Madrid (2017).
Premios Asia Pacific Screen Awards
Los premios Asia Pacific Screen Awards, que celebran ahora su decimosegundo año de existencia, representan el mayor reconocimiento de la industria del cine en la región de Asia Pacifico.APSA, promueven la excelencia cinematográfica y la diversidad cultural de la región. La región comprende de 70 paises y territorios, 4,5 billones de persones y es responsable de la mitad de la producción de películas a nivel mundial.
Con sede principal en Brisbane, Australia, los premios son apoyados por la alcaldía de Brisbane y administrados por el departamento de desarrollo económico, Brisbane Marketing. APSA tiene el privilegio de colaborar con la UNESCO con sede en Paris y FIAPF – International Federation of Film Producers Associations.
Actualmente, APSA y su academia también están comprometidos con alianzas con la European Film Academy (EFA), The Motion Picture Association (MPA), The Network fo the Promotion of Asia Cinema (NETPAC), los Asia Pacific Screen Lab (APSL), Griffith Film School y ahora con Los Premios Platino del Cine Iberoamericano.
La ceremonia de los premios 2018 se realizará en Brisbane el 29 de noviembre de 2018.
