Bai Xue was born in China. She obtained her MFA from the Beijing Film Academy. After competing in the CFDG China Young Film Director Support Program, she made her first feature, The Crossing (2018). The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival where it received an honourable mention for NETPAC Award. It also screened at the Berlin International Film Festival where it was nominated for the Best First Feature Award and the Crystal Bear for Generation 14plus. She was mentored by renowned Chinese filmmaker and APSA Academy member Tian Zhuangzhuang who is an executive producer on The Crossing. Bai received her first APSA nomination for Best Youth Feature Film in 2019 for The Crossing.
