Born in 1979, Genki Kawamura is a director, producer and writer. In 2012 he published his novel If Cats Disappeared from the World which became a best seller and has appeared in translation in 21 countries. As a producer, Kawamura has worked on films including Your Name, Mirai, and Belle. The Hollywood Reporter selected him for Next Gen Asia Class of 2010. Genki Kawamura directed his first short film, Duality, in 2018 which was selected by the Cannes Film Festival for its Short Films In Competition. He also co-created with Hirokazu Koreeda The Makanai, a Netflix original series to stream worldwide in 2022. His feature film debut, A Hundred Flowers, is based on the novel he published in 2019.
