Born in Xinjiang Province in 1973, Wang Jingchun majored in Performance at the Shanghai Academy of Dramatic Arts. He started his acting career in 1998 and quickly began appearing in many popular TV dramas. He made his name playing honest, principled men, and has worked with such eminent directors as Wang Xiaoshuai (APSA nominated 11 Flowers 2011), Zhang Yimou (Shadow 2018 and The Flowers of War 2011), Diao Yinan (APSA-winning Black Coal, Thin Ice 2014), Ann Hui (APSA nominee The Golden Era 2014) and Andrew Lau Wai-Keung (The Founding of an Army 2017). In 2013, he starred in Ning Ying’s Police Diary, for which he won several accolades including the Golden Phoenix Award and Best Actor Award from the Tokyo International Film Festival. In 2019, he was awarded the Silver Bear for Best Actor for his role as a grieving father in So Long, My Son, for which he also received his first APSA nomination.
