Special Mention, Achievement in Cinematography, 2015

Known for his ‘obsession with light’, Lu Songye was born and raised in Hulun Buir, China.  He graduated from St Petersburg State University of Film and Television in 2008, having majored in cinematography. Since 2010 he has taught cinematography at China’s Hulunbeier University. Tharlo, shot completely in black and white, premiered in Venice’s Orizzonte section, and was nominated for the Venice Horizons Award.  Tharlo has received wide acclaim including four nominations at the 52nd Golden Horse Awards including Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography for Lyu Songye.

We acknowledge the continuing connection to land, waters and communities. We also pay our respects to Elders, past and emerging. We recognise the integral role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and First Nations peoples continue to play in storytelling and celebration spaces.
