First International Juror revealed
First International Juror announced
This week we were thrilled to announced that one of Indonesia’s best-known art house directors Garin Nugroho will chair this year’s Youth, Animation and Documentary International Jury in Brisbane in November.
Nugroho is our first announced juror and will be joined by two additional jury members who will together determine Best Youth Feature Film, Best Animated Feature Film and Best Documentary Feature Film.
Garin Nugroho is a multi-award-winning filmmaker whose films have screened at the world’s most prestigious festivals.
He was inducted into the Academy in 2007 for his direction of musical Opera Jawa, which was nominated for Best Feature Film.
The Mirror Never Lies (Laut Bercermin) produced by Nugroho and Nadine Chandrawinata won the APSA Best Children’s Feature film in 2012.
Nugroho is currently in Australia as a guest of the Asia Pacific Screen Awards and the Melbourne International Film Festival, where his most recent film Memories of My Body is being screened.
The daring film, which tells of a young dancer’s rite of passage, won Nugroho the coveted Best Film at Venice Film Festival’s Horizon section before taking out last year’s APSA Cultural Diversity Award.
The Asia Pacific Screen Awards nominations will be announced on 16 October.
Jury deliberation will occur soon after with winners announced live from the awards ceremony on 21 November in Brisbane, Australia.
