Nomination Detail

Writer and director Yang Chao is a graduate of the Directing Department of the Beijing Film Academy. He wrote and directed his debut 35mm short film Run Away (2001), which was selected for Cinéfondation at the 54th Cannes Film Festival, winning 3rd Prize. Passages (2004), his feature writing and directing debut, received a Camera d’Or Special Mention at the 57th Cannes Film Festival as well as Jury Prize at the Gwangju International Film Festival and Special Jury Award at the Barcelona Asian Film Festival. Crosscurrent (2016) was ten years in the making and screened In Competition at the 2016 Berlinale where the film was awarded the Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to APSA Academy member Mark Lee Ping-bing for his cinematography.
