Lee Joon-ik is one of South Korea’s most successful film directors and producers. His 2005 smash-hit The King and the Clown was seen by 12.3 million people, making it one of the highest grossing Korean films of all time, and Republic of Korea’s official submission for the Academy Awards®. Lee’s impressive filmography has seen him jump deftly between genres and from period to contemporary films Historical drama The Throne is Lee’s ninth directorial feature and won the Grand Prix at the 2015 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival plus three awards at the 35th Korean Association of Film Critics’ Awards, including Best Film. In 2016, Lee released his black and white Colonial era drama Dongiu: Portrait of a Poet. He is also CEO of production company Cineworld Entertainment.
