Zeki Demirkubuz is a prolific film director and screenwriter from Isparta, Turkey. After graduating from the Istanbul University, Faculty of Communications, he began his film career as an assistant director before making his first feature Block C (1994). His second feature, Innocence (1997), screened at the Venice International Film Festival and The Third Page (1999) screened at Locarno and Rotterdam among many other festivals across the world, winning Best Turkish Director and FIPRESCI prizes in Istanbul. In 2011, he commenced work on his Tales of Darkness Trilogy, the first two parts of which screened in Un Certain Regard at Cannes. In 2006, he made Destiny, a prequel to Innocence, following it with Envy (2009),Inside (2012) and Nausea (2015). Ember (2016) is his 11th film and had its international premiere at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.

We recognise the integral role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and First Nations peoples continue to play in storytelling and celebration spaces.
